SUP on the Liwiec River
The Liwiec is an easy, calm, and shallow river known for its clear waters and sandy bottom.
In short, it's a perfect option for a family trip or the first time floating on a river for less advanced users.
The friends I went with chose a section of the river about 15 km long, ending in Urle.
Since we knew that the river was quite shallow in places (about 15-20 cm), we took boards from the Fun Wind rental company for the rafting trip, i.e. Allen Allrounda with three short glued-in fins.
Hania, riding the Starboard iGo ZEN 10'8", swapped her original fin for a shorter one. All boards are all-round and easy to maneuver, which worked very well on the small and rather winding Liwiec River.
With this equipment, we never had to carry our boards through the shallows. Our group was completed by our four-legged passenger, Milou, who took turns paddling on a SUP and swimming (with his dog, of course) :-)
The whole water fun took less than 3 hours.
Information :
- travel time from Warsaw: approx. 1 hour
-recommended equipment: all-round boards with short fins
(without the main fin, only on the two side ones)
the remaining allround with the fin changed to a short one (max 10 cm)
-difficulty level: easy
-logistics along the river either on your own or at one of the numerous kayak rentals
I recommend it for a short one-day trip.
