BURTON SNOWBOARDS - TECHNOLOGIES, PRODUCTION, TECHNICAL DETAILS

SNOWBOARD CORE

Since the 2016 season, the cores (in all Burton snowboard models) have been based exclusively on FSC-certified wood (sourced from well-managed forests with environmental, social, and economic benefits). We've also reduced the weight of each core by 10%. This weight, when translated into the entire board, translates into tangible benefits for snowboarders, both when climbing and performing tricks. These new cores are the result of the most thorough redesign of this snowboard component to date.

FSCTM CERTIFIED ULTRAFLY 500G CORE
Our lightest core ever, the Ultrafly, has undergone 20 design changes, revealing benefits that take it to a whole new level. Precision milling optimizes the weight-to-power ratio and delivers the highest efficiency possible from a wood core.

FSCTM CERTIFIED DRAGONFLYTM 600G CORE
The use of wood cut across the grain (i.e. wood fibers), in zones subject to the greatest impact forces, allowed the replacement of heavier wood species with lighter ones, without losing strength and other important core parameters.

The core used in the Custom XTM, Antler and Antler Flying V boards.

FSCTM CERTIFIED SUPER FLY llTM 700G CORE
Stronger and lighter wood, used in specific areas of the core, allows for stronger pop-up, durability and reduced board weight.

FSCTM CERTIFIED SUPER FLY® 800G CORE
More friendly in nature, yet charged with energy, this core utilizes two types of wood—softwood and hardwood slats glued together alternately. This significantly reduces the board's weight without sacrificing strength or performance.

FSCTM CERTIFIED FLY® 900G CORE
This is our classic tip-to-tail wood core (used throughout the board), constructed using two of the best wood species. This allows for a 10% weight reduction without sacrificing essential characteristics like flex, pop, or durability.

BOARDS – MARKING TO MAKE SEARCHING EASIER
It's no secret that Burton offers the most diverse and comprehensive snowboard collection in the industry. Each board is designed for a specific type of rider, so to narrow your search to a manageable level, we've simplified the information to four key features that define each product, presented with easy-to-read labels.

PROFILE (Bend)
This indicator tells you which of the 8 profile types a given board model has: Camber, Flat Top or one of the rocker-camber hybrids.

TERRAIN
A board designed for riding on groomed slopes has such versatile properties that it can be used for both park fun and powder skiing. However, if someone prefers a specific type of snowboarding, a board with more specialized features will definitely be better for them – in this case, they should consider features such as the board's profile and shape when searching.

DRIVING STYLE (personality)
In this category, which we've dubbed RIDING STYLE, it doesn't matter whether you ride just once a year or almost every day for 10 seasons. Some snowboarders need stiff boards for dynamics and speed, while others prefer soft boards for fun and maneuverability on the slopes.

BOARD WIDTH (width)
This feature should never be overlooked when choosing the right board. Boot size not only determines binding size – this information should also be considered when determining the appropriate snowboard width. Boot tips or tails that protrude too much beyond the board's outline can ruin any descent, especially low-level turns, while a board that's too wide makes it harder to edge.

FACTORY TUNING

MICROFINISH
The base of every Burton board is waxed, polished, and textured, ensuring it's ready to ride right out of the factory. Our Microfinish process involves over 30 finishing steps, including sharpening—including applying the correct angle—and dulling edges (in precisely defined areas), ensuring the boards perform well for all riding styles and conditions.

ENDURO LUBRICATION PROCESS
After the Microfinish tuning, it's time for the Enduro waxing. Each board is professionally waxed and polished to a "glossy" finish, guaranteeing a super-fast ride right out of the box.

INFINITE RIDE™
This exclusive Burton technology maximizes energy and dynamics by "building" the board and preparing it in a special machine that, by significantly flexing the deck, adjusts its parameters to your expectations. Whether you choose a rocker or camber profile, Infinite Ride™ technology ensures that your board will maintain its flex, pop, and feel from day one, season after season. WATCH VIDEO

BINDING MOUNTING SYSTEMS

THE CHANNEL™
Stronger, faster, easier, and with more adjustability – these are the benefits of The Channel™ system, which provides complete control over your stance on the board and is compatible with all major mounting systems used in bindings (not just Burton). But that's not all – all boards equipped with The Channel™ are fully covered by a 3-year warranty. This means you can make a claim, even if the problem is with a completely different part of the board than The Channel™ system.

Stronger, faster, easier, and designed to help dial-in the perfect stance for you - The Channel® gives you ultimate control of your stance and your board in a design compatible with all major bindings (not just Burton's). VIDEO WATCH

SPLIT CHANNEL
Switching between approach and descent bindings and finding your preferred splitboard stance is easier than any other solution available in this segment of the snowboard market. The Split Channel system provides a stronger, faster, easier, and more adjustable way to mount your splitboard bindings—the days of compromise are over! All Burton Split Channel splitboards come equipped with interfaces/pads for mounting snowboard bindings.

M6 TRANSITION KIT
The M6 Transition Kit (included free with every Burton snowboard purchase) includes everything you need to ensure compatibility with the latest generation of The Channel™ system with pre-2011 bindings, meaning those equipped with a disc or EST system. The M6 Transition Kit includes two discs for Burton Disc bindings and a full set of hardware necessary to mount EST bindings.

BOARD SHAPES

TWIN (symmetrical)
The board's perfectly symmetrical shape (identical nose and tail in shape, length, and flex) allows for a centrally positioned ride, equally effective both forward and switch. Jibbing, pivoting, landing, and buttering on the slopes – all these maneuvers provide improved balance, freestyle mobility, and cat-like stability, no matter which direction you're riding.

DIRECTIONAL
This shape is characteristic of classic snowboards, designed more for cruising than freestyle maneuvers. It features a slightly longer nose than tail, concentrated energy in the tail, allowing for pop-ups, high buoyancy in deeper snow, and complete board control in all types of terrain and snow conditions.

FREERIDE DIRECTIONAL
Twin or directional? That's the eternal question asked by creative snowboarders like Terje Haakonsen. The Directional Freeride shape puts an end to the debate about set-back sidecuts or camber profiles. It allows for a centered stance, like a twin board, for a freestyle feel on flat surfaces, while delivering the agility you'd expect from a directional deck when carving fast and tight turns.

WIDE (wide boards)
If you have larger shoe sizes, choose a board from the models with a wider deck (Wide), which are designed from the ground up for riders with shoe sizes larger than US 11 (men's).

MID WIDE (medium wide boards)
Board models optimized for US 10-10.5 (men's) shoe sizes have a slightly wider waist to prevent the toes or heels from catching during turns, increasing stability and freestyle play.

TAPER (tapered shape)
The tapered shape of the board means the nose is wider than the tail, allowing for easier, smoother turn entry and exit, stability at high speeds, and greater buoyancy in deep snow. The taper values of the Burton collection boards vary depending on the intended use of the model.

FLEX

TWIN (symmetrical)
The flex of the twin board is perfectly symmetrical from nose to tail, allowing for a centered body position that is equally effective both forward and switch.

DIRECTIONAL
This type of flex is characterized by a more springy and energetic tail section and a more flexible nose area. This allows for easy control of the board in all terrain and snow conditions, and also increases buoyancy in powder.

CORES
With a focus on sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing practices, we've made significant improvements to our snowboard core designs, most notably a 10% weight reduction across the entire collection and the exclusive use of FSC-certified wood. This core weight reduction provides the board with tangible benefits that snowboarders will experience during both ascents and turns. The benefits of the new cores are the result of the most thorough modification to date to this snowboard component.

EG D: Engineered Grain Direction (using a special arrangement of wood fibers)
Burton's exclusive technology leverages the properties of wood that are dependent on its grain orientation. This construction takes into account both the direction and angle of the wood fibers, resulting in excellent responsiveness, durability, and edge grip along the entire length of the board.

MultiZone™ EGD™
In four separate zones of the board's core, the wood fibers are arranged perpendicular to the part of the core that is directly adjacent to The Channel™, which distributes the rider's energy to the rest of the board, providing greater power and better edge control.

DUALZONETM EGDTM
In this construction, the wood fibers in two zones are aligned parallel to the toe-heel axis, meaning perpendicular to the fibers of the rest of the core. This ensures excellent edge grip and greater durability.

FIBERGLASS

MYSTERY GLASS
Based on a formula from the future, Mystery Glass technology is the result of an automated production process in which a complex pattern of carbon fiber weaves allows for precise flex distribution and board feel, revolutionizing the weight-to-strength ratio. CARBON HIGHLIGHTS
Carbon Highlights technology optimizes the performance of the fiberglass fabric layers and adds a full-length (tip-to-tail) carbon fiber layer, resulting in reduced weight and precisely balanced torsional stiffness and feel, allowing the board to be tailored to various riding characteristics. Fabric fibers arranged at a 60° angle provide easier maneuverability and greater freestyle play, while fibers arranged at a 45° angle are suitable for a more aggressive riding style. The Antler, Antler Flying V, Custom X, Landlord, Landlord Split, and NEW Skipjack models feature additional Hi-Voltage carbon fiber reinforcements, which are arranged at an angle to the other fiber layers in the laminate, providing the board with greater agility and further weight reduction.

SLIDES

METHLON SLIDE
A highly durable base material that requires little waxing. Burton's most advanced sintered base delivers unparalleled speed that lasts all season long. An exclusive and secret Burton technology.

Sintered WFO Base
A sintered, ultra-durable, high-density base. It's incredibly absorbent and has a specially formulated lubricant infused deep into its pores, keeping it "Wide F!#@ing Open" (WFO) all season long, regardless of conditions.

Sintered Base
A durable base with a highly porous structure. Thanks to its increased durability and excellent wax absorption, it ensures excellent glide in all conditions.

Extruded Base
Speed, power, and excellent pop – a board with these qualities pairs perfectly with a base that requires minimal maintenance. Outperform all your friends without the need to wax the base.

EDGES

FROSTBITE EDGES
A Burton innovation long before the advent of overhyped "notched edges" concepts, Frostbite construction extends slightly beyond the area beneath the bindings, providing incredibly strong edge grip, especially on hard, icy surfaces. Solid grip when you need it, playfulness when you want. Frostbite edges are ready to bite into hard snow like a lion into an antelope haunch, yet they're also forgiving and allow for smooth, fluid board handling.

OVERBITE FROSTBITE EDGES
This evolutionary modification of edge technology delivers greater efficiency at a lower cost – it's essentially double the size of Frostbite. It's a subtle change, but the result is impressive – increased grip on hard, icy surfaces and smooth board handling that helps prevent edge-catching. This solution is exclusive to the Talent Scout, Deja Vu Flying VTM, Social, and Socialite boards.

FROSTBITE OFF-AXIS EDGES
A Burton innovation long before the advent of overhyped "notched edges" concepts, Frostbite construction extends slightly beyond the area beneath the bindings, providing incredibly strong edge grip, especially on hard, icy surfaces. Solid grip when you need it, playfulness when you want. Frostbite edges are ready to bite into hard snow like a lion into an antelope haunch, yet they're also forgiving and allow for smooth, fluid board handling.

SIDE WALLS

Dual Guard Rails
Designed to protect against board damage, Dual Guard Rails increase durability, improve damping, and enhance the visual appeal of the sidewalls. Dual Guard Rails combine high-quality TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), providing excellent shock absorption, with highly durable polycarbonate, which reinforces the sidewall's strength.

CORE PROFILING
The core profile refers to the extent to which the thickness extends along the entire length of the board, from the tip to the tail. The core profile, combined with various materials, shapes, and board constructions, influences riding characteristics such as edge grip, flex, and lateral torsion. A properly selected core profile addresses the specific needs of different riding styles. Burton's patented Squeezebox technology is available in three variants, each with its own performance level.

SQUEEZEBOX HIGH
By adding carbon fiber to the classic Squeezebox profile, we've enhanced the potential of our most effective profile with extra energy, resulting in massive pop. This technology is applied only to the sections of the board located outside the binding line. Carbon fiber provides almost instant responsiveness in the tip and tail of the board.

SQUEEZEBOX
The most versatile Squeezebox profile increases the board's pop and efficiency by combining thicker, stiffer sections of the board's core with thinner, more flexible sections. The snowboarder's energy is transferred under their feet and outward toward the nose and tail, making the board more dynamic, stable, and easier to maneuver.

SQUEEZEBOX LOW
Providing enhanced board feel, the Squeezebox Low features a highly advanced core profile, ideal for progressive riders. Stiffer zones just outside the binding mounting line allow for more direct energy transfer to the tip and tail, while also providing a softer, more even flex between the bindings. The result is improved board control with less effort on the part of the rider.

OTHER DESIGN SOLUTIONS

RADUCTION
Raduction is a patented Burton solution that optimizes every element of a board's construction—from waist width, flex, and sidecut, to effective edge length—allowing for up to 10 cm of shortening. This makes the board light and agile, easy to maneuver and perform tricks, yet surprisingly buoyant in deep snow, stable at speed, and with impressive pop. Raduction is changing the way we judge board length for good, so forget about the rules you'll find in old guidebooks. The Nug, Nugget, Fish, Barracuda, and Genie models are equipped with the Raduction system.

FILET-O-FLEX
Some riders seek boards that offer greater flexibility without sacrificing performance. Filet-O-Flex solves this problem with an ultra-thin core profile that provides the board with the right amount of softness, maximizing its responsiveness, stability, and edge grip. An additional benefit is a lightly cushioned layer underfoot. This solution is featured on the Name Dropper, Socialite, Social, Feather, ProTest, and the NEW Skipjack Surf.

OFF-AXIS
The Off-Axis solution redesigns key elements of the board's design to match the binding angles preferred by typical park riders. These anatomically accurate changes result in improved grip on both the leading and trailing edges, a more natural flex in the binding area, a balanced feel, and a more responsive board during takeoffs and landings. Off-Axis is available exclusively on the Custom Twin, Custom Twin Flying V, Parkitect, Process Off-Axis, Name Dropper, Talent Scout, and Socialite boards.

SIDE EFFECTS
This patented design extends the surface area at the tip and tail of the board in contact with the ground, improving edge grip and allowing the board to more easily glide through powder. In short, the Side Effects design delivers more responsiveness and increased grip on groomed runs, while off-piste it improves the board's floatation in deep snow.

PRO-TIP™
The tapered thickness of the board at the nose and tail helps reduce the so-called rotating mass, i.e. the weight in places that are important for making the board easier to maneuver.

ELLIP KICKS
The elliptical shape of the nose and tail facilitates the generation of pop, while providing additional buoyancy in deep snow and making the board easier to handle both in powder and in mixed snow conditions.

SCOOP
The strongly convex "spoon" shaped nose and tail of the board raises the edges at both ends of the board, which ensures a more relaxed riding style, without the fear of "cutting into" the edges during freestyle fun, and also forgives riding mistakes both on the prepared slope and in deep powder.

CRUISE CONTROL
This solution increases confidence through a set of features that prevent edge bite: a softer flex and more gently tuned edges. On tapered boards like the Clash™ or Feather™, the nose is fully convex, providing great stability in all terrain.

EASY RIDER / Easy Bevel
Easy Rider technology offers snowboarders an incredibly soft and forgiving board that makes it virtually impossible to "catch" an edge. The convex base lifts the edges off the surface, which, combined with the super-soft flex, ensures incredibly easy learning to control the board and maintain balance.

Easy Rider is available in the following board models: Genie, ChopperTM, NEW Chopper LTD Marvelo, ChickletTM, Riglet and After School Special
