SUP paddling around Warsaw.
Stand-up paddleboarding is becoming increasingly popular. An inflatable SUP board is easy to transport, and when taken on vacation, it adds a whole new dimension to your vacation. Especially now, when most trips are restricted, it's worth exploring the surrounding area and experiencing Poland from a SUP perspective! Because the world seen from a SUP is beautiful!
SUP can take on a variety of forms, from relaxing on the water and pure recreation to competitive training on a RACE-style board. On a stand-up paddleboard, you can explore local lakes, cruise rivers, or even try offshore tourism or wave riding.
For us, SUP is both relaxation in the wilderness after a long week at work, combined with the physical exercise without which it's hard for us to sit still. Below are a few suggestions for shorter or slightly longer SUP trips, along with practical information collected and personally tested by the Fun Wind SUP Team (three generations of paddlers).
Lake Dziekanowskie (Dziekanow Polski)
- 30 minutes from the center of Warsaw
- good access to the water
- on weekends and during holidays, when the weather is nice, there is a light party on the beach, but when you move 20 meters from the shore, you have the water all to yourself
- an elongated lake, approximately 1.5 km long, perfect for a short trip in the afternoon or before work
Last summer I was there every morning with our shepherd dog Hector; we watched a flock of eight young swans grow up; in September their parents taught them how to take off from the water and fly; it looked like a well-organized PE lesson
Port of Żerań
Our discovery this summer for afternoon training.
- A few minutes' drive from the center.
- The sporty atmosphere of the rowing and kayaking club.
- Clean water, lots of fish ☺
- A large reservoir with the possibility of doing hard core long distance to the Zegrze Reservoir (approx. 16 km)
- There is no current or navigational obstacles.
- And those industrial views of the old river port seen from the water ☺

Lake Czerniakowskie
- a small, atmospheric reservoir practically in the heart of Warsaw
- nicely developed shores and good access to the water from the beach on Jeziorna Street
- a good place to take your first steps on SUP, or relax on the water in the middle of the city
- in summer there are a lot of people on the beach and in the swimming area, but you can find some peace in the water
The Wkra River

The whole Wkra River is nice, this year there is definitely more water than last year, which is especially important in the lower shallow section.
- About 1 hour drive from Warsaw
- Clear water, not too fast current, and few navigational obstacles. Nevertheless, it's a bit more challenging than in still water.
- The further up the river, the fewer kayaks on the water and civilization on the banks.
- Herons, swans and the splash of an otter jumping into the water from the shore are not uncommon.
The river is described on numerous websites, with distances and trip times. The current is not very fast, 2-3 km/h. At low water levels, the river is easy to navigate, but in spring it can be more dangerous.
We recommend starting from Joniec or Sochocin.
The kayak rental http://www.eldawkajaki.pl/ will take us up the river, or pick us up after the trip and take us back to our car.
Our discovery this summer is the Dziektarzewo nature reserve.
We went there several times as a family, the youngest participant was less than 2 years old ☺
Although we covered a short distance, the forested banks with hundred-year-old pines and fallen trees in the river current gave the impression of complete wilderness.

I drove 40 minutes to Kamieńczyk nad Bugiem on Saturday after work. Half an hour later, the rental company www.kamyk-kajaki.pl took us to Wywłoka. From 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., we managed to cover 17 km of this very interesting river.
- shores from forested slopes to flat meadows, lots of birds, few people
- the current is about 4 km/h, so if someone doesn't row intensively, they simply need to have a little more time and the river will take them to their destination.
Of course, this is just one of the options on this very interesting and, in its upper reaches, completely wild river.

Bzura River
On the first August Sunday of this summer I went to Bzura.
- It's an hour's drive from Warsaw.
Sunday and the beautiful weather meant that the rental shop http://www.motoprzystan.pl in Plecewice was already crowded at 10:00 a.m. Fortunately, after five minutes of rafting, it was empty ☺
The trip to Kamion (21 km) is long, but the current of about 3 km/h helps, and numerous sandy beaches allow for comfortable rest.
- The clean and cool water provided respite from the heat.
- There were a lot of fish in the river, birds on the banks, and at one point three small otters paraded in the current in front of my beak.
For views like these it was worth waiting almost an hour in Kamion under the bridge for the return transfer.

Wieprz River
While spending an extended weekend near Lublin, we decided to check out the Wieprz River. The river offers great potential for stand-up paddleboarding, thanks to its numerous twists and turns and the ability to cover long distances.
Important information:
- HIGH current – definitely the strongest of all the rivers we've visited so far. A leash is essential. Paddling upstream is practically impossible – it's best to arrange a pick-up at a pre-arranged location. We recommend contacting https://kajaki-nad-wieprzem.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral
- Difficult access to the main river current. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find an easy access point – it's worth searching for one or asking at the aforementioned rental shop.
- The river is wide and free of natural obstacles. There's little shade, so a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential in summer.
