 Vinylon F - fabrics from which backpacks are made usually require a protective coating in the form of polyurethane (PU) or silicone, which makes them waterproof. Vinylon fibers behave in this respect like natural fabrics and swell upon contact with moisture. This way, the fabric also becomes more compact and can withstand more moisture without the need for a coating. This feature, combined with the exceptional durability of Vinylon F, is one of the reasons why this material has been used in Kånken backpacks since the late 1970s.
